Dear Danielle Smith and Pierre Poilievre

(For American readers: Ms. Smith is the premier (think governor) of Alberta; Mr. Poilievre is the leader of the national conservative party and is currently pretending to be Alberta member of the federal parliament - in reality he's from Ottawa; it's a long story - and Mark Carney is the liberal party's prime minister of Canada)

This is just stupid: Carney has bet the country on Trump losing the mid-terms; his China deal betrays both western Canadian agriculture and central Canadian manufacturing, and it's obvious that the federal liberals have no interest, none, in acting on the memorandum of understanding they signed with Alberta on pipelines and other issues.

The entire Carney program: all of the speeches, promises, and agreements they're running up various flagpoles have one underlying purpose: keep the rubes quiet until after the U.S. mid-terms kneecap Trump and they can do a deal with the democrats as they bring back Biden era regulatory, trade, and immigration practices.

Current happy talk of a spring election is just more of the same: it's all a stall - unless, of course, polling shows them an opportunity for a sweeping majority and five year mandate, then they'll take it - but as long as the conservatives poll well, it isn't in the cards.

So what can you do? what you should have done when Trudeau stepped down and left Poliviere without his favorite target: sign up with MAGA and force Ottawa into a position where they either play fair or break up the country.

And no, diddling around with the Alberta Prosperity people isn't going to help - on the contrary they're the fed's (and so the media's) favorite people because they're going to lose big and that will weaken Alberta's negotiating position considerably.

How? three steps:

  1. get the keystone II expansion done. The deal is easy: get a Trump executive order on national security grounds setting the legal issues back to the status quo before Biden's inauguration; have the Trump people agree to repay losses due to Biden's actions provided that the line is actively moving oil within something like 15 or 18 months; and, have the province borrow sufficient funds on Canadian financial markets to lend the companies involved the cash needed to get it done;
  2. get your own referendum in place: ask for authority to negotiate an economic union with the United States to be voted on later if, by some date like January 1st, 2027 the federal government has not met, or moved significantly forward on, all of its obligations under the memorandum of understanding; and,
  3. invite Mr. Trump to hold a mid-term campaign rally in Calgary.

This can be done because it is all good for America - and it should be done because the liberals will destroy our country unless someone - and I mean us - kicks their asses around the block until they sober up.
